Thursday 27th August
Well, what a mixed week of weather we have had!  Beautiful warm days mixed in with massive thunderstorms – on one evening the Fire Brigade was calledout to help with flash floods on the Main Street.  Luckily we were not affected.

Recent visitors to Green Man Cottage were still able to get out and about and have visited Lincoln, where they took a trip in an open topped bus, Southwell Minster, Belvoir Castle, Burghley House and Woolsthorpe Manor(NT).

We have fitted a new double socket in the kitchen of Green Man Cottage which has two USB charger points in it.  Hopefully this will be of use to visitors who might have forgotten their plugs – especially those from abroad.

The barbeque has been lit on a regular basis between the rain as guests have been using the cottage as a meeting point for catching up with friends and relatives.

Melton Mowbray continues to be a good day out for visitors as there are markets both in the town and on the Cattle Market.  The Melton Mowbray Food Festival is being held over the weekend of the 3rd and 4th October.  This is the 12th annual festival and visitors will enjoy a huge selection of edible delights from some of the country's finest producers, many from the East Midlands.  Over 150 exhibitors will be showcasing their produce at the Festival and this year visitors can sample not only the local traditional Melton Mowbray pork pies and Stilton cheese, but also a range of delicious foods such as artisan cheeses, steamed puddings, chocolate kebabs, gourmet British Game, locally brewed ales and more...

This coming Bank Holiday weekend near Nottingham sees the Newstead Abbey Food and Drink Festival on Saturday, Sunday and Monday 29-31 August.  There will be demos from chefs including Dean Edwards, Sean Wilson and Chetna Makan as well as food and drink stands, craft stands, lots for the children to do as well as free entry to the beautiful gardens of Newstead Abbey.

On the 4th, 5th and 6th September the first ever Newstead Abbey Folk Festival will take place which should be fun for all the family.

Saturday 8th August - Today our weekend visitors are going to BBQ with friends in the garden of Green Man Cottage and are then off to enjoy the Fireworks Competition at Belvoir Castle, after dark.  Luckily the weather is dry and warm and they they should see a fantastic display of fireworks.

On Tuesday they are hoping to visit the Farmers' Market at Melton Mowbray.
